Yesterday was bookended by "firsts": my first yoga class, and my first opera. I'll deal with yoga in a minute - the real hot topic here was the opera, "From the House of the Dead".
We got our tickets through the Opera For a New Age program, which basically gets you $20 opera tickets if you are under 30. We were hoping for culture - what we got was Prison Break crossed with The L Word, edited by the guys who pick the movies shown on City TV on Friday nights after midnight.
While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, I will say this: full frontal nudity at the opera house in the form of a Siberian penal colony shower scene was probably more unexpected than a second round of the Spanish Inquisition.
I also wasn't expecting such a heavy focus on video projection. While the whole experience left me feeling like maybe I am more of a symphony girl, it ended my evening on an adventurous note, which carried all the way through being locked out when I arrived home. I was valiantly rescued by Britt, who should be finished seasons 3 and 4 of The Wire by now. I wish I was on reading week.
