Cold medication makes me stupid

I am having a super hard time getting rid of this stupid cold. I have been taking cough syrup routinely to try to address the crazy coughing fits that I fall into every 15 to 20 minutes, and it has been helping, but it also turns me into a moron. For example, on Friday morning I went into work and got myself a can of gingerale, then I sat down to start reading something. I knocked the unopened can over, it hit the edge of the desk, then the edge of the chair, then the floor; somewhere on it's the can was punctured and so when it hit the ground it began spraying gingerale everywhere. The obvious thing to do in this situation is to use your mouth to cover the whole while you run for the sink, but instead I picked the can up and held it out in front of me at arms length (covering myself in gingerale in the process) and running towards the sink, which meant that I was running headfirst into a fine mist of gingerale. All of this happened before 9am; you can imagine what the rest of my day was like.
