Monday

I did laundry today.

Doing laundry at my house is a terrifying experience. The laundry machines are in the basement. The basement is a dirt-floored, dark, damp, many-roomed, barely lit death trap. The stairs are located at one end of the basement, and the washer and dryer are located in a small room at the other end. Right above the machines is a large hole in the wall that looks into one of the many rooms in the basement. There is no light on in that room.

Also, in order to get to the machines, you have to walk past a door that leads into a different but also dark room.

I hate doing laundry at my house.

I'm crafty about it. Actually, I like to pretend I am crafty about it, but I know everyone sees right through me.

What I do is this: I invite people over when I have to do laundry, and then I make them come with me into the basement. I invite them over to hang out, and then I mention that I have to go into the basement, and why don't they just come with me. It obviously fools no-one. Adam and the Marks are my most frequent chaperones. I think they agree with me, at least to an extent, that the basement is creepy. And they know that, if they don't come over, I won't have any clean clothes.

The basement is super scary. I have scared myself just thinking about it.

Anyways, I decided to do my laundry today by myself, in the middle (i.e. least evil time) of the day. I turned on the light at the top of the stairs and walked all the way down (the stairs are just planks, with the empty backs gaping into ... another dark room. There was a big wet spot in the dirt at the bottom of the stairs. There was a smaller blotch beside it that was most likely mud and then probably rust but I swear it looked like blood.

OK, I have officially firghtened myself to the point that I have to speed through the rest. Suffice to say I ran through the rest of the steps of doing laundry at lightening speed.

I then went out for lunch, met up with Jen, picked up all my stuff for my new knitting project, came back to my house and watched Poirot mysteries.
